Diamond Certification Guide

A diamond's certification defines its true identity, reflecting your commitment to quality. Whether you are verifying natural rarity or lab-grown innovation, this guide helps you explore our stunning curation. Let's delve into the technical artistry and insider buying strategies for each leading gemological lab.

Understanding Diamond Certification: Our Promise of Trust

When investing in a diamond, peace of mind is just as important as the stone's sparkle. A diamond certificate—often called a grading report—is an official document issued by an independent gemological laboratory. It serves as the diamond's blueprint, verifying its authenticity and scientifically measuring its Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat weight.
At our studio, we believe in absolute transparency. We do not self-certify our diamonds; instead, every major center stone we offer is evaluated by the world's most respected, unbiased gemological authorities.

Every Vellia Vey center stone diamond is accompanied by an independent grading certificate from the industry's leading gemological laboratories:

Our are independently certified by the .Lab-Grown DiamondsInternational Gemological Institute (IGI)

Our are independently certified by the .Natural DiamondsGemological Institute of America (GIA)

Note: Accent side stones and small pavé diamonds under 0.50 carats do not come with individual grading reports.

GIA(Gemological Institute of America)

The Gold Standard for Natural Diamonds

Founded in 1931, the GIA is the world's foremost authority on gemology and the creator of the famous "4Cs" grading system. From a professional standpoint, a GIA certificate is considered the gold standard of the diamond industry. Their grading process is notoriously strict, consistent, and unbiased, utilizing a minimum of four expert gemologists to look under the loupe at every single stone before issuing a final grade.

Behind the Science:

The GIA operates with unmatched strictness. When a natural diamond enters a GIA laboratory, it undergoes a rigorous, blind testing process. Multiple expert gemologists must analyze the stone independently using advanced spectroscopic equipment and master color-comparison stones. A grade is only finalized when there is a unanimous consensus. Because of this uncompromising precision, a GIA certificate guarantees that your natural diamond's rarity, origin, and characteristics are documented with absolute accuracy.

IGI(International Gemological Institute)

The Pioneer in Lab-Grown Diamond Grading

Established in 1975 in Antwerp, Belgium—the diamond capital of the world—the IGI is the largest independent gemological laboratory globally. While they grade both natural and lab gems, IGI is celebrated as the absolute pioneer in full-scale certification for lab-grown diamonds, having established standard metrics for them long before other institutions.

Behind the Science:

Because lab-grown diamonds share the exact physical and chemical DNA as natural diamonds, they require highly sophisticated technology to properly evaluate. IGI laboratories are equipped with state-of-the-art laser and digital imaging systems specifically designed to map the growth patterns of lab-grown crystals. An IGI report provides an extensive, detailed breakdown of the diamond's quality, and the diamond's unique report number is micro-laser-inscribed directly onto the stone's girdle, ensuring the diamond you purchase matches your certificate perfectly.

Why Independent Certification Matters to You

Zero Bias

Neither GIA nor IGI buys or sells diamonds. They have no financial stake in the value of the stone, ensuring their evaluation of our diamonds is 100% objective.

Consumer Protection

A certificate ensures you are getting exactly what you pay for. It eliminates the guesswork, allowing you to compare diamonds based on verified, scientific data.

A Lifetime Document

Your certificate is a permanent safeguard for your jewelry, essential for insurance appraisal and passing your diamond down as a cherished heirloom.
